Anne Rice, who recently died at age 80, was born in New Orleans and, for many years, lived in one of New Orleans’ most interesting buildings. Formerly known as St. Elizabeth’s, the stuccoed Italianate structure takes up an entire city block on Napoleon Avenue in Uptown New Orleans, built in 1860 as a Catholic girls school operated by the Daughters of Charity. Anne Rice bought the building in 1993 and used it as her personal residence, studio and museum for her large doll collection. After ten years, Rice sold it to a developer, who divided it into 28 luxury condominiums, the most spectacular of which is the chapel.
