Guy Fieri
Guy Fieri
Describing himself as an "eccentric rocker guy at heart", Guy Fieri is described as "lightening in a bottle" by the Food Network's VP of Marketing, and "The Trailer Park Gourmet" by The Daily Beast. Highly criticized by many of his peers and adored by his fans, the Food Network people knew that the day he won The Next Food Network Star in 2006 was their lucky day! With his bleached spiked hair, gobs of jewelry and sunglasses propped on the back of his head, this is a guy you won't easily forget. Today with three cookbooks on the New York Times Bestseller List, ownership in a list of restaurants, three TV shows, a public relations road trip on the immediate horizon, personal appearances, managing knife and food product lines and book signings, Guy is a busy man. Along with being a strong personality comes expected gossip; this time accused of ogling women, being a homophobic and calling Jews "cheap". But it all goes with the territory. The hard part, he says, is having to leave his family for periods of time and watching his youngest cry every time the suitcase is pulled out. But since celebrities know their popularity can be on top today and gone tomorrow, it's important to cover the territory when the time is right.
Unlike many celebrities who go out and buy large homes as soon as they see an opening in their financial ceiling, Guy and his wife, Lori, were hoping to move into a house in time for their son's first birthday. When he met his agent one morning to take a quick look at a house that had just come on the market, he unexpectedly fell in love with it and closed the deal on the spot. He described it as a "dump" but was enthralled by the land and trees around the house. He knew then that he could turn this house into their dream home. The day they closed, the contractors were on site for a complete rip and strip. Over time, the home grew into exactly what they had always wanted. The kitchen is the focal point since his office is there, and it's where they spend most of their time, where homework is done and meetings are held. It's the heartbeat of the property. For the children and their friends he turned the yard into a playground with pool, basketball hoop and trampoline that is in constant use. He also built a home for his parents nearby. Many have asked him if his increased fame would entice him to move. But after putting so much of their hearts into the renovation, and wanting the children to have the opportunity of growing up in one home, he said they're happy right where they are. Now if they could only pull the airport a little closer!
