Historic Texas Waggoner Ranch!
Historic Texas Waggoner Ranch!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleSecond only to the King Ranch in size, but the largest ranch to be held by one family behind one fence since its inception in 1849, the famed and storied 510,527-acre Waggoner Ranch in northern Texas is now for sale, closing an important chapter of Texas history. A vast and diverse ranching operation running thousands of cattle, hundreds of horses, almost 30,000 acres of farmland under cultivation with thousands more suitable, 1,200 producing oil wells, a nationally known horse program and recreation opportunities from wildlife and large lakes, it’s the most significant ranch property to come on the U.S. real estate market in years.
With a mind numbing 2,000 miles of internal roads throughout the property, traveling across its 800 square miles through six Texas counties and comparable in size with the European country of Luxembourg, the terrain of the ranch varies from fairly level to rolling and sometimes rugged with water sources mainly from live creeks, large earthen ponds and irrigation. Several huge lakes are located on the ranch covering from 1,000 to as many as 16,000 acres each. In addition to the two main owner compounds, there are multiple homes for senior managers and cowboys, a picturesque hunting lodge and around 20 cowboy outposts for herding and cattle working operations. Public hunting has never been allowed in the history of the farm so there are large populations of deer, turkey, quail, dove, waterfowl and feral hogs.
Conveying with the sale is Santa Rosa, the former home of Waggoner Ranch heir and sculptor Electra Biggs, best known for the 1959 Buick Electra automobile that General Motors named after her and her bronze statue of Will Rogers in Fort Worth, Texas. A second home in the sale is the southwest-style Zacaweista estate built in 1910 for the next female heir, also named Electra, by her father as a ploy to keep her and her new husband from moving to Philadelphia. Both estate homes are large enough to accommodate and entertain multiple guests and family members for long visits.
Also included in the sale is 42% of the entire mineral estate, all permanent improvements including rolling stock such as large machinery and vehicles, ranch equipment, oilfield equipment, cattle inventory, horse inventory, horse facilities, brands, intellectual property and the Waggoner Office Building in nearby Vernon, Texas.
