Architect Drew Lang latched on to the concept when he saw the trend toward natural eco-conscious, organic and fresh-air living sought by today’s families wanting a cleaner lifestyle, but with few functional choices available. Joined by his team, Lang created Hudson Woods - two hours north of New York City in the Hudson Valley at Kerhonkson.

Encompassing 131 acres, Hudson Woods features 26 architect-designed dwellings, each on a minimum of five acres, crafted of local materials. Designs start out with a standard 2,800-square-foot floor plan consisting of three bedrooms, two baths, great room and den on two levels. From that point, an imaginative array of additional options are available from a fourth bedroom to a vegetable garden, guest house, orchard, screened free-standing outdoor kitchen, swimming pool, treehouse, children’s playhouse, electric car charger along with interior additions and upgrades. The first 14 homes are in various stages of construction with buyers from Brooklyn and Manhattan. Currently there are eight lots left at the starting price of $765,000 for a 2,800-square-foot, three-bedroom model with a detached garage and studio. Each parcel in the development is a minimum of five acres.
