Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleSports must be the Larkin family’s middle name. All three of Barry Larkin’s brothers had important roles in either major league or collegiate sports. As for his own children, his son, Shane is a point guard on Florida’s University of Miami men’s basketball team and his two daughters play lacrosse. Barry has a lot to be proud of, from his own 19-year career as a shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds to his son, Shane, being named the ACC Player of the Year leading the Hurricanes to both the regular season and conference tournament titles in 2012-13.
Barry Larkin is one of the greatest shortstops of all time as well as endearing himself to fans and teammates. His kindness and sensitivity to the feelings of others has often been mentioned. Especially admirable, Larkin learned Spanish in order to build a rapport with the Hispanic members of the Cincinnati Reds and even a portion of his acceptance speech during his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012 was spoken in Spanish.
Barry grew up in Cincinnati where he played high school baseball for Archbishop Moeller High School (also Ken Griffey Jr’s high school), was a star at the University of Michigan, and was actually drafted twice by the Cincinnati Reds (once after high school and again after college) where he played shortstop from 1986 to 2004. He was the 1995 National League Most Valuable Player, 12-time National League All Star, and won three Gold Glove and nine Silver Slugger awards. Barry was the first MLB shortstop ever to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in one season. He played his entire career for the Reds, retired in 2004 and was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. He is currently a TV analyst for ESPN’s Baseball Tonight and frequently rumored as a future manager of the Reds.
Another Cincinnati all-star is Barry’s former penthouse across the Ohio River from Cincinnati in Covington, Kentucky. Built to Barry’s specifications, this 6,125 square foot, 4 bedroom, 4 bath condo with 922 square feet of terraces provides dramatic views of the Ohio River and Cincinnati skyline. With only eleven units in the building, the homes are as large as most estate homes and this stunner has many major league amenities. . . even room service. Conveniently located to Great American Ballpark where the Reds will be defending their 2012 National League Central Division championship, the home is within walking distance to fine dining, performing arts and Downtown Cincinnati.
Designed for Cincinnati Reds shortstop, Barry Larkin, this exceptional penthouse is priced at $3.5 million.
