NASCAR Champ’s Home Foreclosure!
NASCAR Champ's Home Foreclosure!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleIt’s a sad story but one we hear way too often. No sooner do they start making a name for themselves in sports; the money starts rolling in, . . . and they shoot themselves in the foot. So it went with Jeremy Mayfield, up and coming NASCAR driver and team owner. As a five-time winner on NASCAR’s premier series, then driving for his own racing team, in the spring of 2009, prior to the start of the Richmond race, a computerized random drug testing of drivers and teams showed methamphetamine for Jeremy. Instantly suspended, Jeremy denied charges, claiming it was instead a mix of Adderall and Claritin-D. In order to get back into NASCAR after a drug suspension, it is necessary to voluntarily enter a plan of action designed by Dr. Black, a toxicologist in Nashville, who oversees testing for NASCAR and other companies. Jeremy never went to Dr. Black as it would likely have been an admission to the charges, which he yet denies.
In the meantime, things got worse. A source told authorities that Jeremy was also stealing to support his drug habit; that they had seen him buy and use meth over 500 times. The source also gave specific details. A search warrant was obtained and the Mayfield’s home searched, which turned up 1.5 grams of meth and a meth pipe. Also found were stolen heavy equipment parts, scrap metal, welders and welding accessories, which were returned by police to their respective owners. In April 2012, he was indicted on 5 counts of felonious breaking and entering.
On April 30th, the Mayfield home and property consisting of 2 homes, an equestrian center and machinery sheds will be going up for auction, including the approximately 455 acres on which these buildings sit. The foreclosure auction will be held at 12 p.m. at the Catawba County courthouse in Newton, NC, with the property going to the highest bidder. The Mayfields have 10 days after the auction to either vacate the property or come up with the $2,387,130 on the principal for the two mortgages and an additional $334,700 in accrued interest. The main house, under renovation, has 5 bedrooms, 7 baths and is sized at 13,925sf. A caretaker’s house is included and large machinery sheds. There is a 25-stall equine center with covered riding arena, 3 ponds, along with open and wooded land. Estimated value is $1,880,973.
