Staten Island’s Haunted Mansion!

Staten Island’s Haunted Mansion!

Staten Island's Haunted Mansion!

Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For Sale

This beautiful old Victorian has a history fraught with myth and legend, as well as a 2005 event found to be quite true. Balthasar Kreischer built and operated a brick factory on Staten Island in the 1800s that supplied the brick for most of the island homes built in that period. He constructed two large identical homes for his sons, Edward and Charles, of which Kreischer Mansion was one. Edward committed suicide, and the family business and one of the homes burned down. Some say you can still hear Edward’s widow weeping in this mansion along with scratching sounds in a spot where children were punished, and a man and a woman ghost slamming doors.

Even more gruesome, according to truTV, the mansion was used as a mafia killing ground where then-caretaker, Joseph (Joe Black) Young, was charged with the 2005 slaying of Robert McKelvey and sawing the body into pieces before throwing them into the furnace. It is said he was paid $8,000 for the grisly act by a member of the Bonnano crime family. Young was convicted by a jury of racketeering and murder on October 27, 2008.

Today, all evidence of its murky past has been stripped away and the original grandeur has been restored. It virtually sits on the hill with its big wrap-around porch all dressed up, looking forward to the future and awaiting its next owner. This 6,700sf, 5 bedroom, 5 bath home has 14 rooms, crown moldings, stained glass, multiple fireplaces, gleaming millwork and stunning views over the Charleston neighborhood. Since the one acre lot has already been professionally landscaped, all one need do is schedule the movers. Zoned for many possible uses -Priced at $1,599,000.
